A centrifuge enquiry often starts with a desired flow rate, but that leaves the supplier guessing what separation result matters. Recovering useful liquid, managing unwanted solids and handling a variable feed are not interchangeable acceptance objectives. A defensible enquiry explains the intended material balance before it asks a supplier to guarantee treatment.

Use this guide alongside the drilling-fluid decanter centrifuge reference. It is an engineering-procurement worksheet for reviewing offers, not a commissioning procedure or permission to change bowl or differential speed.

Describe the feed as evidence, not a label

“Drilling mud” is not a sufficiently complete feed description. Record where the sample comes from, what fluid system it represents, and which changes are likely during service. Supply available density, viscosity, solids and particle information with its test method and sampling context. Mark unavailable information explicitly.

Explain the intended destinations of the liquid and solids streams. State whether the concern is recovering liquid, rejecting an unwanted solids fraction or another defined outcome. Avoid selecting an attractive brochure cut-point claim and treating it as proof of the result for an uncharacterized feed.

These are qualitative review decisions. The table supplies no invented efficiency, throughput or acceptance threshold.

Separate mechanical references from process promises

The retained GN equipment catalogue, page 18, contains a distinct GNLW363D-VFD column. Its bowl dimensions and main-motor entry can identify a catalogue configuration. They cannot establish the feed's separation result, complete electrical consumption or the selected operating settings.

Keep an edition identifier with every copied value. The general GN decanting-centrifuge page has operating-table differences from that PDF, although the geometry and main-drive entries used on the product page agree. Do not choose a differential-speed entry from one source and a capacity entry from another to create an apparent configuration that neither source presents.

The PDF also qualifies its maximum-capacity reference as water-based and makes treatment dependent on material conditions and the required result. That is a process boundary, not a minor footnote. A water maximum cannot become a mud guarantee simply because the same model name appears nearby.

Define a proposed acceptance basis early

Ask the supplier which measurements would demonstrate the stated objective and what feed conditions those measurements assume. Agree which stream is sampled, how a representative feed will be described and how results will be reported. The applicable test methods and acceptance thresholds should follow technical agreement, not be invented in a generic enquiry.

Distinguish mechanical inspection from process evaluation. Confirming an identified drive, supplied component or dimensional interface answers a different question from demonstrating a separation result. Both may matter to an order, but neither automatically replaces the other.

For a preliminary proposal, unresolved feed characterization can remain a declared condition. Ask for the consequences of that uncertainty and the next useful assessment rather than demanding a performance promise before the input material is known.

Make package and conformity boundaries explicit

List whether the enquiry includes feed equipment, discharge handling, controls, guarding and installation interfaces. Have the bidder identify auxiliary loads separately from main drive power. Record site electrical and area-classification requirements without claiming that a generic website statement certifies the offered assembly.

Order-controlled drawings, inspection records and applicable conformity documents can be requested at the appropriate procurement stage. Their absence at first enquiry does not invalidate a factual family reference. It does mean the bid must avoid unsupported statements about certification, authorized supply or unconditional suitability.

Send the feed record, intended outcome, package boundary, proposed acceptance questions, quantity and destination in a centrifuge RFQ. Require the response to preserve assumptions and identify the exact configuration, so technical review can resolve real process risks rather than reconcile unrelated catalogue maxima.
