Process Level Transmitters
Process level transmitter selection using the FD86T pressure-guided example. Keep water-head range, operating temperature, enclosure protection and electrical interface distinct when preparing a tank or vessel RFQ.
FD86T manufacturer-published selection references
Reference fields for quotation comparison. Final values must be confirmed in the signed manufacturer datasheet.
| Parameter | Reference value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| FD86T / water-head range options | 0-1 to 0-200 mH2O | Normalized from the manufacturer's 0-1m to 200mH2O notation; refer to its selection table. Not a universal process-liquid depth rating. |
| FD86T / working temperature | -10 to 60 degrees C | The webpage does not distinguish ambient from process limits. |
| FD86T / accuracy options | 0.25% FS; 0.5% FS | Published full-scale options; select one in the order specification. |
| FD86T / supply | 16 to 28 volts DC | The source recommends 24 volts DC. |
| FD86T / protection by component | Housing: IP65; sensor: IP68 | No immersion depth or duration is established by the webpage. |
Product overview
Pressure-guided level measurement
The FD86T example from FRD CONTROL uses a liquid-contacting pressure cylinder and a pressure pipe that transmits gas pressure to the sensor. It is a pressure-guided design, not a non-contact radar instrument. The specification rows refer only to this example and do not define the capability of all process level transmitters.
Read the range and protection limits separately
The manufacturer's range notation uses mH2O, a water-head unit. Do not read the upper family limit as an approved immersion depth in an arbitrary process liquid. For quotation, state liquid density, vessel pressure and the measurement datum, then request the calibrated range for that installation.
The source distinguishes housing protection from sensor protection. It does not provide immersion-test depth or duration with the IP68 entry. This page therefore makes no whole-instrument submersion claim. The working-temperature row is retained as such because the webpage does not separate ambient and process-temperature limits.
RFQ checklist for the vessel connection
- Provide a vessel sketch showing the level datum, measuring interval and proposed pressure-cylinder position.
- Identify the liquid composition, density range, operating temperature and cleaning conditions.
- State whether the vessel is open or pressurized, including normal pressure and expected excursions.
- Request a wetted-material list and a drawing of the pressure cylinder, connecting pipe and instrument mounting arrangement.
- Identify the desired signal interface and request a wiring diagram, calibration record and model-specific installation limits.
- Include the destination's hazardous-area requirements if applicable; enclosure protection alone is not evidence of explosion-protection approval.
The existing image is a process-instrumentation category reference, not a photograph identifying the FD86T arrangement. Manufacturer references do not establish stock availability, an authorized-sales relationship or compatibility with an installed transmitter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I treat the FD86T family range as the liquid depth in my tank?
Not without a configuration review. Supply the liquid density, vessel pressure, datum and required calibrated interval so the proposed instrument can be checked against the actual installation.
Does the IP68 entry apply to the complete transmitter?
The technical table assigns different protection levels to the housing and sensor. Obtain the installation manual and immersion conditions before deciding where either component may be mounted.
Which signal interfaces are listed?
The FD86T page lists 4-20 mA DC, 1-5 V DC and RS485 options, with MODBUS RTU and HART named. Request the ordered interface and wiring explicitly; this listing does not prove simultaneous support for every option.
