Product overview

Bolting family and dimensional range

Oilfield bolting must be selected by drawing, thread system, material grade and service environment rather than by nominal diameter alone. The reviewed manufacturing range covers M12-M130 (1/2-5 inch), bolt lengths of 25-1250 mm and threaded-rod lengths of 55-9500 mm. These are portfolio limits; the quotation must confirm the exact diameter-length-material combination and thread availability.

Material and temperature classes

Published material families include ASTM A193 B7, B7M and B16, ASTM A320 L7 and L7M, stainless B8 and B8M, duplex grades and nickel alloys. Low-temperature, sour and corrosive duties require the governing material specification, heat-treatment condition, hardness restrictions and matching nut grade. A standard name in a catalog does not replace the ordered test and traceability package.

Coating and tightening data

Coated fasteners need coating type, thickness, friction coefficient, curing limit and compatibility with the nut and service fluid. The buyer should state whether torque, tensioning or hydraulic bolt loading will be used, because lubricant and coating change the torque-tension relationship. For flange joints, include flange class, gasket, stud quantity, protrusion and target preload procedure.

RFQ checklist

Request heat and lot traceability, chemical and mechanical test reports, hardness, impact testing where applicable, coating inspection and dimensional records. If API 20E or API 20F certification is mandatory, verify the current license, bolting specification level, facility and ordered scope independently. Upload the bolting schedule or drawing with the RFQ and identify any approved substitutions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is required besides stud diameter and length?

Specify thread, material grade, nut grade, coating, temperature, sour-service rules, bolting level, testing and traceability.

Can coated and uncoated bolts use the same torque?

Not automatically. Coating and lubricant change friction, so use an approved torque-tension basis for the joint.

How should API 20E or 20F be requested?

State the required specification, bolting level and documentation, then verify current facility and product scope before award.
