Hydrostatic Pressure Calculator

Calculate a preliminary static fluid pressure and pressure gradient from fluid density and true vertical depth.

Use as a preliminary reference

Preliminary reference only. Verify inputs, results, equipment data, and operational decisions with a qualified engineer and the applicable current procedures. Do not use this page as a well-control program or barrier decision tool.

Method

Pressure gradient in psi/ft = fluid density in ppg × 0.052. Hydrostatic pressure = gradient × TVD in feet.

Example: 10 ppg fluid at 5,000 ft TVD gives 0.52 psi/ft and approximately 2,600 psi.
