Multiport Selector Valves: Review the Port Map, Not a Meter Claim

View the model-specific values, conditions and sources
Make the purchase boundary visible
A multiport selector can be included in a wider metering package, but selecting a stream and measuring that stream are different responsibilities. A buyer replacing only the valve should not inherit an undefined obligation to redesign the meter, skid piping or control system. Conversely, a valve-only offer should not be mistaken for a complete metering solution.
Start the bid review with an endpoint ledger: where each identified stream enters, which connection leads toward testing, which leads toward gathering and who owns each interface. The ledger is a request for a controlled supplier drawing. It is not a switching sequence or a declaration that a route provides safe isolation.
What the official references establish
EMPIRE's function description describes an internal plug selecting a line toward metering while the remaining streams lead to a gathering outlet. This establishes the described routing purpose, not meter accuracy, seat-leakage performance or isolation capability.
The family product page separately lists inlet sizes of 2–6 in, outlet sizes of 4–16 in and Class 150–2500. Those menus do not establish every possible combination. A class label is not a pressure value in psi. An official news item naming MPS8-NPS6-NPS12-CL2500 supplies an identifiable model reference, but the string is not a substitute for its issued dimensions or pressure-temperature basis.
Build an endpoint-and-responsibility ledger
Use the following columns alongside the process sketch. Project-specific connection identities must come from the buyer's documents and the bidder's returned arrangement, not from the illustration accompanying this article.
| Ledger entry | What the buyer identifies | What the bidder must clarify | Responsibility not implied |
|---|---|---|---|
| Each inlet | Stream identity and required connection | Corresponding valve port on the controlled map | Compatibility with every family-menu size |
| Test outlet | Interface toward the metering equipment | Offered connection and defined route | Accuracy of the downstream meter |
| Gathering outlet | Gathering-system interface | Connection and stated routing arrangement | A universal isolation function |
| Actuator and feedback | Utilities, control interface and project response requirements | Offered actuator, position feedback and scope boundary | Complete control-system integration |
| Sealing acceptance | Required differential conditions and leakage basis | Selected construction and applicable test evidence | Acceptance inferred from a routing diagram |
For each row, retain the drawing revision, the responding party and the unresolved question. This makes a later change in port arrangement visible without rewriting the whole enquiry around an assumed topology.
Review a map disagreement without inventing a solution
Suppose a fictional bid attachment labels two outlets by their physical position, while the buyer's process sketch labels them by function. The quotation states “metering included,” but its equipment list contains only the valve and actuator.
Two clarifications are needed. First, connect each physical outlet label to its stated function on a controlled drawing. Second, identify whether the meter and its integration are included elsewhere or excluded. Neither question can be closed by counting the radial ports in an image.
Do not resolve the disagreement by assuming that a top connection is always the test outlet or that the inlet count reveals the switching behaviour. Request the supplier's arrangement and a description of what remains connected during selection. The outcome of this desk review is an interface question, not permission to operate the valve.
Keep acceptance questions in their own columns
Routing, actuation and sealing need separate answers. A position-feedback statement does not define leakage acceptance. A reference to a test standard does not identify the test configuration or criterion. A manufacturer news claim is not the actual order's certification record.
Ask the responsible project reviewers to define the required failure response, allowable differential conditions and acceptance evidence. Keep those requirements attached to the offered valve and actuator, rather than to a different skid described in an application example.
If the surrounding metering package is also being purchased, give it a separate scope line. That allows valve interfaces and measurement responsibilities to be reviewed together without pretending that they are the same deliverable.
Turn the ledger into an enquiry
The multiport selector-valve reference retains the source-specific family information. Use the RFQ Builder to request the port map, selected connections, actuator scope and sealing acceptance documents. Keep optional metering and integration services explicit.
The accompanying AI-generated category illustration does not verify port count, internal routing or isolation. No metering accuracy, available stock or manufacturer authorization is established by this guide.
