Differential span is not static-pressure rating

A differential-pressure transmitter measures the difference between its high- and low-pressure sides. The FD3051S DP manufacturer datasheet describes a family differential range from 50 Pa to 3 MPa. It separately lists 16, 25 and 40 MPa static-pressure options. The 40 MPa figure is not a 40 MPa differential span. Do not copy the range of the FD3051S TG gauge-pressure model into a DP specification.

Select one capsule and one operating case

The family endpoints do not mean that one capsule can be calibrated across the whole range. First record the normal differential pressure and maximum expected differential during start-up, blocked impulse lines and shutdown. Then record the maximum common-line static pressure and permissible overpressure as separate requirements. Ask the manufacturer or bidder to identify the exact range code and selected static-pressure option on the proposed datasheet.

For orifice-flow duty, include the primary element calculation and the differential pressure at minimum, normal and maximum flow. For filter monitoring, define clean and replacement pressure drops, plus which side can be isolated. For pressurized-vessel level, state tap elevations, fluid density, wet-leg or dry-leg arrangement and whether a remote seal is needed. These applications share a measurement principle but do not share one universal transmitter configuration.

Accuracy, output and installation

The cited DP datasheet lists 0.075%, 0.1% and 0.25% full-scale accuracy options. Quote the selected option and calibrated span together; a percentage without its reference span cannot be used to judge the error at a process setpoint. The same source lists output and communication choices, including 4-20 mA, 1-5 VDC, RS485, HART and Modbus RTU, depending on configuration. Do not assume they are simultaneously available on one unit.

Both process connections, the manifold, vent and drain orientation, impulse-line material, mounting bracket and ambient limits affect whether a reference unit will fit an existing installation. An instrument index or old nameplate is more useful than the family name alone. Check hazardous-area marking and certificate scope against the exact ordered model; a catalog mention is not approval for every variant.

Minimum RFQ data

Send the instrument index, process datasheet, normal and extreme differential pressure, maximum static pressure, process medium and temperature, line and manifold connection details, required output/protocol, hazardous-area requirements and calibration records. Request a model-code breakdown and a deviation list. The published FD3051S DP figures are model-family references, not an offer of stock, interchangeability or delivery by Oilfield RFQ.
