Product overview
A nitrogen utility package, not a natural-gas treating unit
An on-site PSA nitrogen package addresses a utility-supply question: what nitrogen quality and delivery profile does the plant need, and what compressed-air system can support it? It should not be specified as a substitute for TEG dehydration or amine sweetening. The SMC-IGS technical description presents an air-separation process using carbon molecular sieve, with treated compressed air feeding beds that alternate between adsorption and regeneration. The family reference below is intended to help define that enquiry, rather than to imply that a single standard skid covers every duty.
Package boundary and configuration
The manufacturer's custom-package page describes local PLC control, communication with a central control room and a normally skid-mounted arrangement; a container arrangement is a design option. Its modular page identifies another packaging route for smaller and medium nitrogen demands. For an RFQ, ask the bidder to identify which equipment is inside the quoted boundary: air compression, drying and filtration, nitrogen generation, buffer vessels, analysis and any boosting equipment. Do not assume that a protocol, compressor or high-pressure booster is included merely because it appears in a family illustration.
Read capability ranges as ranges, not as one operating point
The custom-package listing gives a flow envelope of 10–10,000 Nm³/h and a nitrogen-pressure envelope of 5–10 bar; its pressure notation does not identify gauge or absolute basis. The technical page gives a purity range of 95–99.9995% on an N₂+Ar basis. Those are separate family statements, not a promise to achieve all maxima together. Its custom-package installation description also refers to indoor, frost-free, ventilated installation on a suitable concrete floor, with a 2–40°C ambient range. Those conditions must not be copied onto an outdoor, marine or mining configuration without a matching design basis.
A traceable model example
SMC's DT-series page for surface-installed coal-mine nitrogen generators lists DTD-200/0.8 at 200 Nm³/h, at least 98% purity and 0.5–0.8 MPa nitrogen pressure. This is a row from that surface-installed series, not a general oilfield qualification. The webpage leaves inlet conditions and pressure-reference convention unspecified. SMC's general FAQ identifies 0°C and 0.101325 MPa as its normal-volume reference, but the quotation should repeat the agreed reference state and purity definition explicitly. A model name is useful evidence of a listed configuration; it is not proof of a current issued design, certification or availability.
What to put into the enquiry
State continuous and peak demand separately, the minimum acceptable quality at the user connection, normal and minimum delivery pressure, operating hours and foreseeable expansion. Ask how analyser readings define nitrogen quality, including argon and residual oxygen. Supply the actual available air-pressure and temperature envelope, contamination information and utilities. The official FAQ highlights air-treatment maintenance and pressure/temperature sensitivity; it does not provide a universal consumption guarantee. Request an agreed guaranteed-point schedule, utility balance, controls description and acceptance procedure, rather than estimating performance from the highest number in each brochure column.
Drawings, application and commercial limits
SMC discusses purging, displacement and blanketing applications, but that page covers both membrane and PSA equipment. High-pressure membrane statements are not PSA ratings. Agree the final arrangement, vessel documentation and tie-in drawings as quotation and engineering deliverables. Catalogue references do not establish project certification, availability or manufacturer authorization. The selected package still needs a documented performance point and installation review before purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I combine the highest published nitrogen flow, purity and pressure into one guaranteed duty?
No. The published ranges are separate family statements, not a simultaneous operating point. Request a guaranteed-point schedule that states the nitrogen quality definition, including argon, the normal-volume reference and the pressure basis, together with the available feed-air conditions.
What should the quotation include besides the PSA nitrogen generator?
Ask the bidder to identify whether air compression, drying and filtration, buffer vessels, gas analysis and any boosting equipment are included. Define the controls and utility boundaries explicitly; an item shown in a family illustration does not establish that it is included in the offered package.
